“It is the right of each generation to declare, “this is who I am.” And to dance to the beat they choose to dance to — even if it is only head thrashing.”

Steve Dahl, Disco Demolition: The Night Disco Died

The Day Disco Died examines the sudden “death” of disco music in America and the many cultural factors that led to its demise. The project examines the moment through social, cultural, and musical perspectives, using research as well as digital tools to examine and break down disco music, the genres it competed with, and the genres it affected. The Day Disco Died seeks to be a digital resource for audiences to learn about Disco Demolition and the culture of the late 1970s that affected American culture for years to come.
